About The Crown

The CrownThe 16th century pub is at the heart of the village of Old Basing near Basingstoke in Hampshire.

It is a Grade II listed building and stands in one of Old Basing's picturesque thoroughfares - The Street.

The exact date that The Crown was built is not known, however it is believed that the inn dates from the time of the Civil War when Oliver Cromwell's Roundheads laid siege to the impressive Basing House, which was a very grand Tudor mansion.

Today The Crown offers a comfortable place to drink. In front of the pub there is a decking area overlooking The Street, where customers can watch the world go by.

There is a large garden at the rear, enclosed behind an ancient wall - which may have originally been part of the wall surrounding Basing House - and in front of the pub's old stable block.

Good beer, a fine wine slection and wholesome bar and restaurant food, in a beautiful old building full of character with friendly people - what else could you want from a country pub?
